Margaret L. Carter, Revisited

Margaret L. Carter was the first author I interviewed for Vampire Books and Authors. I reviewed her book DARK CHANGELING in January 2001. That interview and book review is available at http://www.suite101.com/article.cfm/vamp...

Then in December 2001, I reviewed her then latest book SEALED IN BLOOD, and we did another interview. http://www.suite101.com/article.cfm/vamp...

www.MidnightBlood.com has my review of her vampire erotica, NIGHTFLIGHT, available at http://www.midnightblood.com/AuthorsC.ht... and her vampire romance CRIMSON DREAMS, available at http://www.midnightblood.com/AuthorsC.ht...

I decided to check back with her and see what has been happening.

Margaret impresses me. Not only does she write great fiction, her vampires are some of the most interesting in the vampire universe, but she is also a scholar. She has written five nonfiction books dealing with vampires in literature. When I checked out her new website, http://www.margaretlcarter.com I discovered that she has been very busy in the last three years, with lots of new books.

INTERVIEW

Let's start with your vampires from DARK CHANGELING, SEALED IN BLOOD, and NIGHT FLIGHT. Do you have any more books in this Universe? Tell us about them.

The Hard Shell Word Factory http://www.hardshell.com published CHILD OF TWILIGHT, the sequel to DARK CHANGELING. It takes place between 13 and 14 years later and features Roger's daughter, Gillian, who was conceived by artificial insemination with a female vampire (at the insistence of Roger's adviser, determined to revitalize the vampire species by injecting human genes through interbreeding). They don't know each other at all, but Gillian turns up on Roger's doorstep after running away from her mentor (the very intimidating ancient vampire who is also Roger's adviser). Amber Quill Press http://www.amberquill.com publisher of SEALED IN BLOOD, released CRIMSON DREAMS, another romance. Vampire stories comprise about half of my Amber Quill story collection, HEART'S DESIRES AND DARK EMBRACES. With Ellora's Cave, in addition to NIGHT FLIGHT, I have a novella, "Tall, Dark, and Deadly," in an anthology, THINGS THAT GO BUMP IN THE NIGHT 2 (the 2002 volume in that series). Roger's half-brother, Claude, who features prominently in CHILD OF TWILIGHT and has a walk-on role in SEALED IN BLOOD, stars in "Tall, Dark, and Deadly," the story of how he met his human mate, Eloise. Finally, my latest vampire romance in this universe, EMBRACING DARKNESS, will be published in March 2005 as a Silhouette Intimate Moments novel.

These are very unusual vampires, they aren't the cursed undead, nor are they an alien species. So what are they? How did you come up with the idea for your vampires and their powers? Especially how did you decide that if they didn't have any blood, a warm glass of milk would do?
