Planning a holiday, then going on the holiday isn't the end of the story. A holiday, especially one where you want to see many interesting things, is a project in permanent memory making otherwise it's easy to forget some details or experiences amidst the excitement. How you capture these memories is something that you could give some thought to even before you leave home.
Photographs Photographs are the thing that most tourists use to put those memories into print format. When taking your photos, try and organise your films so that you know - basically - what is on each roll, and keep a note somewhere of how many rolls you are using. Keep your camera safe. Whilst the insurance company can cover the financial loss of replacing your photographic equipment, they wont be able to replace the photos that you lost in the camera at the time it disappeared. Another idea to safeguard your memories is to place used rolls of film in a separate location to the camera itself. At least this way, if you do suffer the misfortune of having your camera bag stolen or lost, the film lost will only be the one currently in use in the camera. If you have expensive camera equipment, check your travel insurance policy and see what limitations (if any) it places on the value of replacing it. If you are taking a digital camera, don't forget to find out how many photo images you can save before running out of memory - it may be worth investing in a spare memory card just in case! Should you be going to an area where you expect to encounter a lot of water, or high humidity, make sure that your camera can take this without affecting its performance. Some cameras are water resistant (that does not necessarily mean that they take photos underwater - but rather than they can withstand being slightly wet if conditions arise such as being splashed with water from a water park ride) but most are not. Take this into account if you are purchasing a camera especially for your vacation, talk to the salesperson about the conditions you are likely to encounter on your trip and ask if the camera you have chosen is suitable. Postcards There are times when only a professional photographer can capture the absolute magic of a particular destination - such as a rainbow arching over Niagara Falls, or a Sunset over the vast Grand Canyon - and this is where postcards really shine over photographs. Sometimes only one of these postcards can show as much as an entire roll of film taken yourself.
