Do I need a Visa?

Anyone coming from outside of the USA needs to check this information carefully before booking their flight. Recent security upgrades within the US have meant that some tourists who didn't previously need a Visa, are now required to do so.

Even if you are travelling from a country where the US will allow you entry upon production of your passport and a form given to you to complete on board the plane, it may be worth obtaining a more formal Visa in certain circumstances. For example, if you frequently travel to the US, or if you intend to tour around and go back and forth across the Canadian border whilst you are on holiday. Having a Visa from the American Consulate in your home country stamped into your passport will save you time form-filling. This can usually be easily obtained by completing a simple form and returning it to the Consulate with your passport, photo(s) as required, and the appropriate fee. Depending on the time of year, it can take time to have this returned so make sure you apply months before you are due to take your holiday.

Which airline do you recommend?

I don't recommend any particular airline! I don't even use one particular airline more than any other. I use whichever can offer me the most convenient flights with the best fare on the day I want to book my travel.

Do your homework. Find out which airlines fly to your destination airport. Can you fly direct from your home airport? If not, what are your choices? Which airline offers you the most convenient times, and short delays in the airports between flights? What facilities do you need from the airline? Are meals and entertainment important to you? Make a list with your preferred travel option at the top, and then any alternatives. Take this with you when you go to the travel agent to book the flight. You may find that they will advise a different route. If this is one you have already looked at and decided against, don't let them bully you into making a decision you're not entirely comfortable with. This is your holiday. Decide what's best for you and instruct them to find out costs and availability of your preferred route first - it maybe be worth asking them to then compare that with their advised route, but don't be intimidated by power marketing!
