Hurriane Season in the Islands

An information desk is usually created and staffed throughout the duration of the storm. Guests can call or go by the desk for the latest developments and forecasts. Some hotels have their own generator and should the electricity fail, guests will not be inconvenienced. Long distance calls are impossible to make before, during and after the storm due to overloaded trunks and storm damage. Local calls, especially within the hotel remain operational.

After the storm, most of the damage is fallen debris such as trees, limbs and leaves. Beaches will need to be cleaned prior to use as well as the water. Sailboats and tour operators will open for business as soon as they can; however, it takes a few days to get a sailboat out of its protected shelter. Not to mention cleaning the vessel and getting it up to tour standards. In the meantime, other activities will be available such as entertainment, dancing, games and contests.

The reason for this article is not to frighten you but instead to empower you. Be aware that if a hurricane should strike, it is most likely to occur during the month of September. Even though there are no guarantees, hurricanes generally do not occur in the same place year after year. A hurricane is not generally life threatening unless you ignore emergency management warnings. Should you find yourself on island during a hurricane, you will have one unique story to tell your friends when you get back.
