Ghosts and SpiritsEven though Halloween is the time for ghosts and spirits, there are plenty of places to visit year round that have their share of spooky happenings. I don’t just mean cemeteries or battlefields. Those are places you’d expect to feel weird things from, but what about the place you might have stopped in for lunch or stayed for the weekend? One place that might happen is at Odette’s Restaurant on South River Road in New Hope, PA. On going there you might experience a cold spot or catch a whiff of perfume, which are both occurrences reported by the staff. Or maybe you want to sidle on up next to a deceased patron of Jimmy O’Keefe’s Restaurant and Irish Pub in Malden, MD. It’s said he resembles John Candy a bit so be on the lookout. For an even odder place to run into spirits try Wendy’s Restaurant in Murrysville, PA. Here there have been several reports of slamming doors, swinging lamps and even an apparition of a man! It’s said that the restaurant was built on top of old mines and the haunting comes from the people that died in them. Now that your haunted meal is at an end you’ll probably want a place to rest for the evening. Try the Martha Washington Inn located in Abingdon, VA and see if you can see the young women who is believed to be looking for her lover. The sightings are apparently so common that at one time the Inn even charged extra for her favorite room. If that’s not enough than check out Farnsworth House Inn in Gettysburg, PA. Now Gettysburg itself is a huge location for ghostly activity and offers a ghost tour year round for all to enjoy, but Farnsworth in particular is rated by some as one of the most haunted houses in America! Various shows including “Sightings” and The History Channel have filmed there. Some of the sightings have been of a man carrying a child in a quilt, a midwife and various soldiers. Listen carefully and you may hear singing! For the more nautical at heart you can try visiting the USF Constellation found at Baltimore Harbor, MD. It was a vessel in the United States navy and back in 1799, as punishment for falling asleep on his watch, a sailor was tied to a gun and executed. Both the sailor and the executioner are said to be still felt onboard as well as ghosts of three other sailors.
