Although having someone mention they're going to the Drive-In may conjure up images of the 1950's or shows like the Happy Days, drive-in's are once again becoming a popular form of family entertainment and the Mid-Atlantic states have their fair share of them. Sadly over the past 30 years the number of drive-in's in the United States overall has dwindled down, but that seems to be changing now. Recently some of the ones that were closed for years have begun to reopen and in a few places new multi-screen ones are even being built. There are some even springing up overseas! So if combining a love for the outdoors with watching the latest releases on a huge screen sounds appealing to you than Drive In's could be what you're looking for.
For the value conscious you'll be happy to know that most drive-in's show double features for your money. This is great for the families as well since the kids can always curl up in the back and sleep while you get a chance to watch a movie more to your interest. For instance the first movie shown might be the new release Dinosaur and then the second feature would be Mission Impossible II. No need to leave the kids home with the sitter! Personally I've found it's really nice to take a truck and climb into the back of it with some sleeping bags or even a bean bag chair for extra comfort. Be creative and enjoy the night out! A few tips and rules of etiquette to remember when going to a drive-in: If there is more than one screen at the theatre, use parental caution with the kids. A Disney show may be playing on the screen you're watching, but all the kids have to do is turn around to catch sight of a scene from a horror movie. Most drive-in's exist on the revenue from their concession stand and don't allow outside food to be brought in so don't pack a picnic for one these. Get there early to make sure you have a prime spot - obviously the ones in the front row will help make sure that nothing blocks your view. Vans may be more comfortable, but be advised that there are limited parking spaces available to the larger vehicles. And last, but not least - pick up your trash and put your speaker back on the post when you're leaving. Go To Page: 1 2
