In our next articles, we will look further at the substance of American colonial protests by examining three of the most influential leaders in the colonies: James Otis, Samuel Adams, and Patrick Henry. We will examine whether there was any merit to their appeals to British common law, their demand for representation and consent, and their eventual decision to take up arms in defense of their "liberties."
