The Natal Chart
What is a natal chart and how can I get one? A natal chart is a map of the sky at the time and place where you were born. The natal chart is the essential tool used by an astrologer to find the planets, signs, and houses at your birth. This chart is what gives information to an astrologer or other interpreter about who you are, your personality, and your path in life. You can get a natal chart from any astrologer, or if you just want a copy, you can make your own at Astrodeinst by putting your city of birth, your birth date, and your time of birth into their forms. If you would like your own program, freeware by Walter Pullen called Astrolog is available for download from the net for both PC and Mac. You will have to have your own atlas to provide longitude and latitude of the place of birth you are using to use the natal chart calculator with this program. I don't know my birth time. Can I still get a natal chart done?" No. While some astrologers will do a solar chart (with the Sun at dawn in the chart) or a Midheaven chart (with the Sun at noon in the chart), in order to have a real reading, you must have your time of birth. If not, it will be like reading a chart for someone else's life. While there will be similarities, the houses will not be correct. The houses say where events happen in your life and where you express your energy. Without that, the natal chart is highly incomplete. So, what are your options? 1.) Birth records, unless sealed due to private adoption, and public information. If you are willing to pay a fee of $2-$5 and fill out a short form, you can contact the hall or office of vital statistics in the town or city of your birth and request the information. This office is often located in a part of the city or town hall, and, if not, the officials there can direct you to the correct office. If you live nearby, it will take less than a day. If you have to have it mailed to you, it will obviously take longer. 2.) Rectification is a process some astrologers will go through to make an educated guess at your time of birth. You will have to work with the astrologer and provide at very least ten event dates in your life that were important, such as illnesses, marriage, birth of a child, divorce, deaths, etc. At that point, an astrologer who provides rectification will go backwards through your life to arrive at a birth time that will give you a natal chart that corresponds with the events that happened in your life. Then, the astrologer will be able to read the chart for your current life and the cycles ahead of you. Rectification, however, is often a time-consuming process, and usually expensive.
