Astrology FAQ Part 2

Astrology and Relationships FAQ

I am a (insert any sign here) "Taurus." Am I compatible with my girl/boyfriend?

There is truly no way to find compatibility astrologically with just Sun Signs. To find astrological compatibility, an astrologer needs to compare the natal charts of both people in the relationship. Even having evaluated compatibility, there are still no black-and-white answers. People in a relationship, whether it is a romantic partnership, a business, etc., can still choose to make the extra effort to make a harder or more challenging relationship work. No relationship is "doomed to fail" because of astrology or anything else except that which is within ourselves. We can find, through astrology, the strong points and the challenging points of a relationship for the purpose of making choices about the relationship.

Can an astrologer tell me what kind of person I would be compatible with or when/where I can find him or her?

An astrologer can only comment on this in a very general manner. It is not as simple as saying that one type of person is good for another. An astrologer can look at Mars, Venus, 7th house placements, and other areas of the chart to get an idea of what kind of person would be good for an individual vs. what kind of person the individual will attract into his or her life. As far as complete compatibility readings, these are usually best done with the chart of the individual asking the question compared with the chart of a person already in mind. As far as telling when or where future relationships will come up or take place, this is also one of those things not set in stone in natal astrology. There are Horary astrologers who deal with questions and answers of this nature, but in natal astrology we look at life cycles and a life path. These things can point to opportunities when a relationship might be possible but, with all things, your own freewill comes into play. You have to choose whether or not to take an opportunity and do the work to find a relationship. Natal astrology can simply give you an idea when it is best to do the work!

Just how does someone find relationship compatibility with astrology?

An astrologer will look at several things. If you consult a Horary Astrologer, he or she will cast a chart for the moment you asked the question for a yes/no answer following specific rules. A natal astrologer will look at several other, different things as well. The natal astrologer will look at the natal charts of both people as individuals and also a "composite" chart of the two people together. The astrologer will then compare the aspects between the planets of the two people in the relationship. All planets, angles, and asteroids and centaurs (if the astrologer uses these) are compared. However, some of the focuses in relationships are the comparisons of the Mars, Venus, and 7th House placements. An astrologer will also take into consideration what houses person A's planets fall into in person B's chart, and vice versa. This is done to find out where the actions and energies of each person will show up in the other person's life, and how each will receive or perceive the other. Yes, it does get complicated, but a competent astrologer can come to a conclusion with the charts as to where the biggest challenges will be in the relationship and where the two people will fit together well. There are often other charts cast, like transit, progressed, or solar return charts, in order to see what stage each person is in the course of their life, and how ready they are to act responsibly in the relationship.
