There are many questions asked of astrologers about astrology itself. Over the next few weeks, we will go through some of these questions and answers. If there is a question you would like to see on the FAQ, please post it in the message board. You are also invited to discuss your feelings on the questions and answers that are put up here, and through the board below we can find the clearest answers possible for you!
Do astrologers really believe that this stuff works, or are they just brilliant scam artists? While I am not going to lie to you and say that some people wouldn't just love to take you for every cent you have, most astrologers do, indeed, believe in what they do. Most astrologers who conduct themselves in a professional manner are also quite skeptical of many things. Many did not grow up with aspirations to be an astrologer (except sometimes in the cases of second and third generation astrologers) but fell into the subject quite by accident. Many of us were amazed at the amount of information and accuracy available from astrology and got into the study because we wanted to learn more. Most astrologers truly do whatever they can with their knowledge to help people. How does astrology work? Are there scientific explanations for this? There are many theories, but no one knows for certain. Some folks think that it is a natural occurrence in the universe. That every atom and every particle in the universe are connected. Therefore, astrology would be a synchronicity of movement in the universe. Currently, science has not come far enough to really measure something like that. Other folks believe that astrology is a psychological phenomenon, and that we as a society project the symbolism and mythology on the planets, signs and houses. In this case, it would look like the planets are affecting us when it is really the other way around. The truth is, it is still a mystery. We can be pretty confident that it doesn't have anything to do with gravity or the planets having an actual "effect" or "rulership" over us. These ideas are from an age long ago when people believed that the lights in the sky were gods. There have been controlled studies on astrology. Many were done by researchers who expected people to pick themselves out of a stack of astrological profiles. These studies found that people couldn't do that. However, please keep in mind that astrology is only as good as the astrologer doing the interpreting. A test like this cannot work, anyway. Astrology is a give-and-take with someone; it is not the be-all and end-all of your life. When using astrology, one always has to take more than just data; they have to consider the whole person, including their upbringing and personal mythology. Otherwise, the map just is not going to be accurate because of freewill!
