Winter Running & Fluid Intake.for up to 12 hours. You should have enough ice chests and water bottles to get you through your run. You will have to determine what that number will be. Now it is time to go out and set them in place. Stash the ice chests out along the course just as you do in the summer. Now you can go out of your long runs and look forward to having hot chocolate or hot coffee or whatever you have decided is your fluid replacement, waiting for you along the route. Some ultra runners have been using this little secret for years and swear by it. One more thing. Wish you had a warm pair of gloves waiting for you? How about a warm hat? Well, just toss them into the ice chest too.
