One of the most difficult problems to deal with in the winter is staying warm. The second most difficult issue is how do you keep the fluid intake up at a maximum while participating in an ultra long distant event? Today I will give you one tried and true method to keep your fluid a liquid. Have you ever arrived at a location where you stashed your water earlier only to find it is now frozen solid and has become a Popsicle? Well, no more. Of course you will be carrying some of your fluids with you, and there are some events where you will have a team strategically stationed, waiting with hot liquids or at the least, warm fluids. But what of the training runs that last for hours? How do you plan to get your fluids in the midst of winter? Here are some tips that will help you have access to fluids even during lonely long runs. The key to this is planning. And salt water. No - not to drink but to help you keep your fluids warm. You should buy about eight of the good old fashioned hot water bottle. You know the type I mean. The thick rubber type that holds about one gallon of water. The next thing you need to do is add one-quarter salt to the water; then heat it almost to boiling. Turn off the heat and get your water bottles ready by pouring hot water from the tap into them. This is only to warm them up a bit. Then empty the tap water and begin adding the salt water. Now make sure that the water has cooled down enough so that you can safely pour the water in without melting the rubber! The reason that you will want to use salt water rather than plain water has to do with the fact that it will stay hot much longer and will not freeze easily. The next step is to get an old ice chest and put the hot water bottle in along with your water or sports drink. Then close it. Believe it or not, the ice chest acts as an excellent insulator in keeping your fluids hot Go To Page: 1 2
