It is now 7 days before I run the Steamtown Marathon. I have done all the training and now am just coasting to the start day.
The Steamtown course is, from point to point, a downhill marathon with an overall descent of 955 feet. There are three difficult (up) hills in it, one at around the 23 mile mark, but all in all I'd have to say it is a great course.
Steamtown is held in Scranton Pa. on October 8 with the race Expo the day before on Saturday, October 7. This is an extremely well organized marathon. The crowd support is great, and gets better every year, by the way. The pre-race and post-race events are well done and the Expo is a wonderful experience. If you have never run the Steamtown thon, then you may want to mark it on your caledar for next year! Here is a link to Steamtown. And by the way, if you happen to be well trained and want to run it this year, they still have some openings. If I were you, I would consider it as I believe it is the the best fall marathon around. The area is beautiful and the course itself takes you through quaint towns on tree lined roads. Bands play and spectaors cheer as the runners go by. There are plenty of water stops as well as the much needed Port-a-lavs along the entire race course. Lynn Seely will be a guest speaker at the race Expo, along with Jon Sinclair & Bill King. Plus, she will be doing a book signing during the Expo from 11 am until 6 pm. She will be running the Steamtown marathon again and hopes to set a PR this year. Hope to see you out there. Be sure to say hello if you will be at the marathon. Good luck to all other marathoners and ultra-distance runners! Remember, run well & have fun!
