It is time to get ready for ultra running events that will be coming up in the near future. As the weather becomes warmer, remember to increase your fluids substantially! Also, remember that hill training is vital if you are going to participate in an ultra run. There are few that do not have hills, so be prepared. If you live in an area that does not have any hills, then you had better be creative and "make" hills. This training can be duplicated to some degree by running up and down stairs. This will not only increase your endurance, but it will prepare your leg muscles as well. Another advantage is your balance will be enhanced. Not a small thing as you consider running down some trails on mountains! You want to use a stair stepper to augment the stair running if you can. The stair stepper will strengthen your legs without pounding the joints, but remember, you will still need to do some stairs to simulate the jarring and hard impact of running downhill in an ultra event. If you are fortunate enough to live close to a gym, try to increase your leg strength by using weights to add additional muscle mass, which will in turn support and strengthen your legs. Good luck. Drink up. And prepare carefully for your next ultra! Remember, your long-term goal is to run ultra's for years to come. So prepare well for them. Go To Page: 1
