Urban Legends, Not Alien Intervention


It never seems to fail, opportunists of every kind seem to creep out of the shadows to provide us with their incredible revelations of what really happened at the World Trade Center on the morning of September 11.

Chances are, if you're like most Americans, you probably have already received a few emails informing you of such. Like the slow-motion video of the fire and smoke crowning one of the WTC towers moments after being struck by the jetliner. The email implies you can see the face of Satan as the smoke swirls and rises above the tower.

I saw it, along with what I thought was a profile shot of Elvis. I could almost swear I saw the face of Osama bin Laden too, but I believe in all three cases I was simply seeing a few of what might be thousands of images in that swirling smoke, were I to look long enough.

Then there is a story circulating through cyberspace that September 11 was a trigger date, a signal for 911 (for 9/11)-- a double meaning according to an email I received. For one, it was the signal of an emergency, but secondly, the numbers 9+1+1=11 were significant to ancient Egyptian scrolls that foretell of future times.

Then there is one email I received that offers a list of interesting coincidences involving the number 11. I have listed the email below for you to ponber.

September 11th is the 254th day of the year: 2 + 5 + 4 = 11 After September 11th there are 111 days left to the end of the year. 119 is the area code to Iraq/Iran. 1 + 1 + 9 = 11

Twin Towers - standing side by side, looks like the number 11 The first plane to hit the towers was Flight 11

State of New York - The 11th State added to the Union

New York City - 11 Letters

Afghanistan - 11 Letters

The Pentagon - 11 Letters Ramzi Yousef - 11 Letters (convicted or orchestrating the attack on the WTC in 1993)

Flight 11 - 92 on board - 9 + 2 = 11 Flight 77 - 65 on board - 6 + 5 = 11

Well -- statistics are a funny thing. So are numbers. And granted, the above "mystery" isn't as outlandish as a few I received saying, in essence, offworld aliens were responsible for the incident, and the event signals the beginning of an invasion.
