Has Your Low Carb Diet Stopped Working?

But there is some merit to the "anti-carb" diets. Carbohydrates come in good and bad forms. As you might guess, fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and dairy products are the good guys. You'll find energy, fiber, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants in these foods, all of which your body needs to get and stay healthier. In fact, carbohydrates from healthful sources should make up 45-60 percent of a balanced diet! The bad guys are foods such as soft drinks, candy, chips, and refined white flour. All these foods add calories to your diet, with little or no nutritional benefits - so you're doing well to get rid of them.

If you're disappointed in your low carb diet, try keeping the good (avoiding sugary junk foods) and leaving the bad (eat a balanced, low fat diet that includes carbohydrates from healthy sources). Talk with your doctor or other health care provider about making healthy changes in your lifestyle, and use the money you would have spent on that best- selling diet book to buy yourself something fun!
