Twins' Mates and Friends

Many people who have good friends that are twins say that they never confuse their friend(s) as being the other twin/sister/brother,(this again would be in the case of identical twins.) The subtle differences in gesture and expression become less subtle once you're around a twin person often enough. And the personality differences, yea, even the "core" of the twin person becomes evident as a completely separate person.

Of course, it makes a difference sometimes if people get to know you individually or if your twin is also present. One of my best friends in college had never met my sister and after two years of friendship, she did...and essentially freaked out! She was not prepared for it and totally mistook Jami Lynn for me. That kind of experience can be fun but also a little unnerving!

I said that my husband knew from the start that I was not my sister. However, the same cannot be said of my sister's husband! The meeting was back in college in 1991. Jami Lynn had been dating Nick for three weeks and thought it might be fun to pull a switcheroo. This is something we rarely did but I complied because she was so emphatic. He didn't know he was sitting next to me instead of Jami Lynn...and in fact leaned over for a kiss! I jumped up and right about then Jami Lynn walked in to break the story. Nick was in denial for a few years but now admits to the mistake. Needless to say it never happened again!
