Ko Tao, Thailand - Tropical Island Paradise

We really did change our mindset as the people around us (especially those there on a semi-permanent basis) reflected a unified consciousness of their stress-free lifestyle. People on Ko Tao came from all different backgrounds and different countries - but they all had seemingly reached the same conclusion about how life on an island should be lived.

Everything on the island was incredible, especially the scuba diving. We saw amazing plant life and sea fauna. Highlights would have to include our night dive and our last dive. The night dive was a magical experience. Going down into the depths of water is scary enough, but doing it in the dark is a whole other experience. As we descended with our flashlights on, we entered a strange world. It was frightening and exciting. As Edward and I reached the bottom, we relaxed ourselves by play fighting with our flashlight a al STAR WARS, until we realized that to other divers we were giving off the signal for help.

We navigated our way around well enough in the dark, and even spotted an octopus! But the really cool part was when we shut off our flashlights. There is an incandescent type algae that glimmers when you wave your hands in the water. As these tiny little glowing bubbles flashed in front of me, it reminded me of FANTASIA. It was amazing.

Then, when you surface, you inflate your vest and float on the water looking up into the incredible star-lit night. Intense.

Our final dive was also one of the best dives I've ever done because we spotted one of the five major sightings for a diver - WHALE SHARK! It was only a baby and was therefore only 15-18 FEET! It was graceful and beautiful and we swam under it for a good while. Seeing this beautiful sea creature (Yes, I know it's a mammal) was a thrill and made one appreciate the immense power of nature.

Our wonderful diving experiences simply complimented the rest of the island experience.

We did stay longer than expected - most do. In this tropical island paradise, we lost ourselves in a wonderful escape from our usual reality. Every now and again, while I am working late at my desk under the florescent lights, my mind pleasantly drifts off to memories of Ko Tao and I can't help but smile.
