A VALENTINE'S JOURNEYValentine's Day Tale: It was a rather brisk morning as "sunny" California was still recovering from three days of cold and rain. My girlfriend, Nita and I got up very early in the morning and began to drive south. Nita was anxious to know what plans I had in store for her on for Valentine’s Day, as she was sure I was up to something (as I usually am). After a couple hours in the car, she sensed we were either going somewhere near San Diego, or heading into Mexico. As thoughts of her getting in trouble with immigration for violating her visa status, Nita somewhat quickly reminded me she was not allowed to leave the country. I assured her that if we ran into problems, that the Mexican authorities could be "persuaded" not to stir up trouble (then I wondered if I had enough cash on me). We drove a little further, and I asked her to close her eyes and enjoy the last bit of the ride. She obliged and a few moments later I took the exit for Sea World. After opening her eyes, Nita was happy, as she is a fan of the ocean and its creatures. Then she was really surprised when I told her that she would be involved in the Dolphin Interactive Program, a program where you get in the water with the Dolphins! She was as happy as I’ve seen her, hanging out with some very friendly dolphins. She kissed and hugged them and splashed around and did tricks with them. I knew Nita was a huge fan of dolphins, but I could never have anticipated how happy she would be to be with them. Of course, I like to throw surprises on top of surprises, so I had one more up my sleeve. Nita was "chosen" to participate in the final dolphin trick. She was given a large plastic bottle with a scroll rolled up in side. She was asked to throw it out towards the dolphin, and the dolphin "nosed" it back to Nita. Then Nita was instructed to open the bottle and read the scroll. It read: WILL YOU MARRY ME! Nita thinking this was just a joke, laughed and said she’d happily marry the dolphin. Thankfully, she was directed towards me at the side of the water, waiting for her. I had a home made puzzle for her to make (it was quite easy – only four pieces), which she put together. It was a picture of me, down on one knee, with a missing piece of the bubble of what I was saying. I gave her the missing piece, which said "Will you marry me?" and this time there was no confusion – only SHOCK!
