Ecotourism Explorer: A site for discovery of the ecotourism path The Ecotourism Society, a non-profit organization, has created a website for travelers, researchers, and business people. Easy to navigate, this website has fact sheets on choosing a tour operator, being a responsible independent traveler, and the National Audubon Society's guidelines for environmentally responsible travel. There is also a list of tour operators who are members of The Ecotourism Society (TES). There is information on joining TES. Membership benefits include a newsletter, employment opportunities in the ecotourism field, and a forum for entrepreneurs in the ecotourism industry. This site lives up to its promise to provide "everything to self-design exciting travel experiences that benefit conservation and provide opportunities for local communities". There is an ecotravel message board to promote conferences, university programs and job announcements as well as a Travel Chat message board for past, present and future ecotravelers to share their experiences and find answers to their questions. There is also a section on finding equipment for your ecotravels and help in making travel arrangements. You can join Conservation International while at the site. Planeta.com: Eco Travels in Latin America Touting itself as a clearinghouse for news and information on environmental conservation and ecotourism in Latin America, this site covers Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean, South America, the Amazon, Caribbean, and Mundo Maya. Included are place specific information, book reviews, cybercafes and a list of Spanish Language schools. The new Headlines service, features environmental and travel news. The book reviews are excellent and a good source for new titles on travel in Latin America. Formerly part of the Soviet Union, Estonia has identified ecotourism as an economic opportunity to support rural areas in a way that protects the natural and cultural resources of the area. Click on Estonia - The Natural Way and you are taken to a very complete information list. Find information on the climate with suggestions on what clothing to bring, local history, Estonian culture and a list of National Parks and Reserves. The site also details passport and visa requirements as well as types of accommodation you can expect in Estonia. A number of ecotours are suggested including bicycle, ski and canoe trips as well as the unique idea of a sleigh-drive in Haanjamaa.
