The West Coast Railway operates the only regular Steam Hauled Mainline Passenger train in Australia. An intercity service connects Melbourne to Warrnambool with 3 daily trains. There are no national rail services in New Zealand.
Australia is a huge country. The major cities are thousands of kilometers apart from each other. It might be wise, therefore, to purchase an air pass. Qantas, the Australian national airline, is a major carrier in the region. You can check out their domestic specials on the Qantas website. Ansett, a smaller Australian carrier, also has a number of good domestic fares. also has an airpass whereby. Air New Zealand, the national carrier of New Zealand, also has a number of special fares for regional travel.
