Working in New Zealand

New Zealand is often missed out by travellers. It seems very out-of-the-way. Many people are not sure what it has to offer. Even those who travel to Australia, often do not make it to this great land. It is a pity. The country has much to offer--from its world-class cities, to its extraordinary natural beauties, it is a place well worth checking out. You can find out more about this land down under at The Lonely Planet guide to New Zealand or take a look at Photo.net.

To work (legally) in New Zealand, you will require a work permit. You can find out more about obtaining such a permit at The New Zealand Immigration website.

A useful starting point for those interested in working in New Zealand is SEEK. It is the country's leading internet employment site. You can find regularly updated lists of jobs that are based all over New Zealand (and even Australia). There are also a full range of career management tools, such as an aid to help you create the perfect resume and articles about careers.

Another job seekers website that is well worth checking out is Travel Jobs. This site, as the name suggests, is geared primarily toward travellers. It is a free service and is ideal for the world traveller who plans to spend a period of time in New Zealand.

A website with more of a slant towards the professional is Southern Alps Recruiting. There are a variety of professions listed on this site. These include teaching, law, accounting, and health-care. However, you should note that they are not able to help you until you have obtained a work visa or residency for New Zealand. In some high-demand areas, however, such as Nursing, other medical areas, and accounting, New Zealand employers are able to sponsor overseas people into New Zealand on work permits.

Taking a look at some of the big job search engines might bring up some opportunities. There are many to choose from. Perhaps some of the best are Job Net New Zealand, Monster, and New Zealand Jobs Dot Com.

If, after taking a look through the links suggested above, you feel that you need some more personal accounts of what New Zealand has to offer, you might be interested in taking a look at eNZed. Here you can find many personal accounts of New Zealand. Most are from tourists, some are from workers. At the bottom of the page there are many useful and fun links.
