Hello again! It's Hoosier Hannah! Join me as we continue our tour of Indianapolis, the State Capitol of Indiana, in Marion County and on the Old National Road as we cross the state on U. S. Highway 40.
We've covered most of the museums in Indianapolis and there are others, like the Indiana State Museum which has some very nice exhibits and a beautiful new home. Parking is available in White River State Park underground parking garage, for $3.00 with ticket validation in the Museum. Give them a call when you are in town to see what is going on there. It is located at 650 W. Washington St. The phone number is 317-232-1637 to check on tours, times and exhibits. Downtown Indy has a beautiful state capitol building to go see, the lovely grounds of which are filled with plantings of native trees and flowers and statuary of famous people. It is right on Washington Street, (U.S. Highway 40). Down the way from that, you are very close to Victory Field, home of the Indianapolis Indians baseball team. Many things are in close proximity in downtown Indy. We have the RCA Dome, home of the Indianapolis Colts Professional Football team. We have Conseco Field House which is home to the Indiana Pacers professional basketball team and we have the Indianapolis Convention Center, where there is something going on all the time. In downtown Indy there is Circle Center Mall with many fine shops to visit. Restaurants abound in the downtown area and are convenient to all the events going on. The renovated Union Station now provides a unique shopping experience. The old train station is still in use today for boarding Amtrak trains to all points out of Indianapolis. It is a beautiful old building with gorgeous ceramic tile work on the floors, decorative arched window treatments and some good restaurants. Among these is El Sol de Tala, an award winning authentic Mexican Restaurant, where owner Chef Javier is on hand to personally greet his customers and give them a taste of his native Mexico. Hoosier Hannah rates his food as the best in Indy, folks! The highest priced combination platter here will run you around $16.95, but most prices are in the $9 and $10 range. Pitchers of Margueritas are a specialty of the house along with Guacamole and homemade tortilla chips. Don't miss this place to eat; you would hate to know what you missed.
