Finding Ireland's Unique Crystal Glass

Waterford Crystal
Ireland enjoys a worldwide reputation for quality handmade crystal. Master workmanship and intricate attention to detail have combined to make Waterford crystal the most sought after glass for everything from sport presentations to presidential preference. Waterford doesn't stand alone though as the only fine glass to come out of Ireland. Tipperary, Cavan and Galway all produce fine crystal.

For those travelling to Ireland a visit to a crystal factory to see first hand the skillful work of the glass blower and cutter can be a unique experience. No doubt most of you won't be able to resist the temptation to buy a piece of two to grace your mantel.

Waterford Irish Crystal Visitor Centre
By far the most famous of all the Irish crystals the Waterford factory welcomes thousands of visitors every year. Witness the craftspeople at work and see a replica of the Millennium ball dropped in New York's Time Square. The showroom also displays many of the most famous pieces presented to sports personalities and presidents.

Cavan Crystal Visitor Centre
Cavan Crystal tries to instill an "awareness and understanding of Heritage" into its glass, making it unique in its own particular approach to design. Comfy sofas and a relaxed atmosphere make the visitor centre here very welcoming. Any piece bought can be personally engraved and visitors often enjoy a meal in the onsite restaurant.

Tipperary Crystal
The aim of Tipperary Crystal was to "create an exclusive brand that would represent the best crystal available anywhere." Set up in 1988 by a group of ex-Waterford craftsmen, Tipperary Crystal has easily met its aim. The display area and factory are close to the banks of the river Suir and it's here that visitors enjoy watching the age old craft of glass blowing.
