The College Campus

During the summer months when the students are away, the universities in Ireland rent out the college resident apartment as tourist accommodation. The standard is basic but good and can be great value for someone on a budget.

The Youth Hostel

This is the ideal option for anyone on a tight budget. The accommodation in very reasonably priced and offers beds in dormitories with basic cooking facilities. An Oige is the Irish organisation that deals with youth hostels and you must be a member to stay at one of the hostels.

The Camp and Caravan Site

Camping is not hugely popular in Ireland and if you know Irish weather, you'll know why. It's not too much of a problem to find a campsite though. Most of the youth hostels offer camping facilities and will allow you to use the hostel's kitchen and showers. Commercial campsites charge per tent site and usually offer coin operated shower facilities. Apart from normal caravanning, it's possible (and a unique experience) to hire a horse draw caravan.

Best wishes,
