However, unlike many travel guides, this book does not drone on endlessly about museums and temples to see or tours to join. Instead, this guide focuses on one main activity: shopping. Thus, the entire book focuses on the where and how of shopping in Thailand and Myanmar, particularly in Bangkok and Chiang Mai.

Bangkok and Chiang Mai are well known for their customized decorative items, beautiful home furnishings, quality antiques, skillfully made handicrafts, brilliant gems, and finely crafted jewelry. However, these areas are also well known for chaotic traffic, caustic pollution, and touts (individuals who helpfully direct tourists to specific shopping establishments where these con artists receive a commission on the tourist's purchases). The aim of this book is teach the reader how to seize the amazing shopping opportunities in these cities while dodging the hassles associated with these places.
