This article continues from Stretching Exercises Parts 2A, 2B and 2C, concludes the exercises, and recommends web sites to visit for your further education on this topic. So if you have not read these three previous parts, or Part 1A and Part 1B, please read these articles first.

Save images to your hard drive: So that you can refer to them in the future, please do save the diagrams to your hard drive by right clicking on the image, and then clicking on 'Save picture As', and saving the image in the usual way in the 'Save As' dialog box. Counting: simply count mentally to yourself. A good way to count seconds fairly accurately is to say, "Mississippi One, Mississippi Two, Mississippi Three,...." and so on! THE EXERCISES CONCLUSIONS You should now be able to answer the following questions: 1. Do you know the basic exercises for your sport? 2. Do you know how much time you need to devote to doing these stretching exercises every day, each week? 3. Do I realise that participating in my sport involves a lot more than simply playing that sport, and so requires a holistic approach? 4. Do I realise that to prevent injury and improve at my sport I may need to strengthen parts of my body? WEB SITES FOR STRETCHING EXERCISES Here are some web sites for you to visit about specific stretching exercises: http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_1/... http://www.netfit.co.uk/stretmen.htm http://www.realrunner.com/ukandeurope/me... http://www.workout.com/exerciseZone/exer... http://www.rice.edu/~jenky/stretch.html http://kirtland.cc.mi.us/~balbachl/stret... http://www.runnersworld.com/home/0,1300,... http://www.row2k.com/physio/overvie1.html http://www.enteract.com/~bradapp/docs/re... http://www.deepsloweasy.com/html/intro.h... http://www.deepsloweasy.com/html/signs.h... Also the philosophy and practice of Callanetics based on exercises which Callan Pinckney used to heal her back and hip problem. Most web sites are for franchised fitness clubs, but this site has explanation of some of the exercises too. The explanations of how to do the exercises use words such as 'gentleness', 'as if you were diving into water', 'pretend your body is like meting wax dripping onto the floor', 'movement is gentle and easy'. Numerous books and tapes abound too. http://www.fitnesstudio.com.au/callaneti... and a site for ergonomic exercises if you work at the computer a lot: http://www.ithaca.edu/safety/ergonomics/... OTHER ARTICLES IN THIS SERIES And here's some shameless self-publicity with an altruistic ulterior motive: as the pain from my Achilles tendonitis is with me 24/7, it will be a long time before I write about actual training methods for running. All my articles so far are about the ancillary aspects about running and have particularly been written from the point of view of avoiding injury. Go To Page: 1 2
