Thinking about going back to school to increase your training and development skills and knowledge? While you might not be interested in pursuing a degree, here are a few continuing education opportunities to help you learn about Human Performance Improvement.

ASTD Human Performance Improvement Certificate Program

The American Society for Training and Development (ASTD) offers a comprehensive, five-course certificate program that focuses on Human Performance Improvement HPI:

  • Human Performance Improvement in the Workplace
  • Evaluating Performance Improvement Interventions
  • Analyzing Human Performance
  • Selecting and Designing Performance Improvement Interventions
  • Transitioning to Human Performance Improvement

An optional seminar, Learning Technologies For Improving Performance, is available but not required for certification.

Each course is presented in an interactive, hands-on style. Take your pick of three convenient formats:

  • 3-day seminars conducted in major U.S. cities
  • On-site seminars conducted in-house for organizations
  • Courses delivered through ASTD's consortium of college and university partners

Completion of the ASTD Certificate in Human Performance Improvement program demonstrates that you possess "the knowledge and skills needed to take an active role in the field transition to human performance improvement."

Tuition for each 3-day seminar and materials for ASTD Members is $1,199 and $1,399 for nonmembers. For course descriptions and registration, go to http://www.astd.org/virtual_community/hpi_courses/.

ISPI Human Performance Technology Institute

The International Society for Performance Improvement (ISPI) offers two "first-of-their kind Institutes" of Human Performance Technology (HPT). Two of these Institutes are described below:

  • Performance Improvement: Principles & Practices

This 3-day workshop covers the theory, process and practice of HPT using a forum approach in which participants work with a faculty of human performance improvement experts and colleagues.

  • Making the Transition to Performance Improvement

This 3-day workshop provides the knowledge, skills, and resources necessary to make a successful transition to a human performance improvement organization. It includes lecture, small group interaction and case studies conducted by "master performance improvement experts and case presenters."

Tuition for each Institute is $1,299 for ISPI members and $1,499 for non-members. Participants of Performance Improvement: Principles & Practices have a choice of formats: online or onsite. The online Institute is delivered via asynchronous distance learning. In other words, online instruction is self-directed and can be accessed according to your own schedule. The onsite Institute is delivered at a major city in the U.S. or internationally. Interested? Go to http://www.ispi.org
