While updating the links on this Web site, I came across recent research on e-learning. Some of it is free, but more in-depth information carries a price tag.

Brandon-Hall.com http://www.brandon-hall.com/

After you arrive at this site, click on the link E-Learning: How to Make Technology-Based Training Work to read an article written by Brandon Hall for the Spring 2001 issue of Forbes.com.

Also, you can download a free copy of the E-Learning Guidebook: How to Develop a Successful E-Learning Initiative. (You'll need to download Adobe Acrobat to read this file.) This 20-page paper covers the process from determining the readiness for e-learning to evaluating results and ROI. It provides a great overview but it won't give you all the information you'll need to establish e-learning in your organization. If you're seriously thinking about this type of project, then you might need to purchase additional publications that are for sale at brandon-hall.com.

The MASIE Center http://www.masie.com/reports/

"If we build it, will they come?" reads the press release for the Learning Technology Acceptance Study conducted jointly by The MASIE Center and the American Society for Training & Development (ASTD). The study aims to better understand how organizations can increase learner use and acceptance of e-learning technology. The launch date of the study was November 1999.

You can also download the following reports:

  • The e-Bang theory
  • Riding the Big Wave
  • e-Learning and Knowledge Economy
  • Corporate eLearning: Exploring a New Frontier

Also look for brief summaries of an e-learning benchmarking study featured in Elliott Masie's newsletter "Learning Decisions." Click on http://www.masie.com/reports/LDresearch.... to see these summaries.

    The e-learning business

If you're interested in the business of e-learning from a financial perspective, here are two sites you should visit.

    WR Hambrecht + Co http://www.wrhambrecht.com/research/cove...

WR Hambrecht + Co is a financial services firm that offers advisory services for technology and emerging growth companies.

Its Corporate E-Learning: Exploring a New Frontier report outlines major trends and potential winning strategies for companies targeting the corporate e-learning market. "Since the e-learning industry is a relatively new, unexplored frontier, this report is intended to provide a concise overview of the key aspects of this emerging market and to offer a framework for analysis for industry players and the investment community." It is available in PDF format.

eCompany Now http://ecompany.com/webguide/0,1660,281|... ECompany Now, which is part of the FORTUNE Group at Time Inc., describes itself as a “straight-talking, sophisticated companion to business people who face the risks and opportunities technology brings to the business world.”
