Tolkien and Null-Tolkien

Nov 3, 2003 - © Douglas Charles Rapier

analogy from that world, Middle-earth, to this one.

I must declare, though, I am not a 'believer'. I do not believe that Middle-earth and its inhabitants actually lived and did the deeds told in Tolkien's tales. Neither do I hold as fact that the Titan, Prometheus, gave the gift of fire to humanity nor that the Tree Yggdrasil holds the World aloft. What I am convinced of is the validity and the veracity of Tolkien's metaphors. In the words of Joseph Campbell, they are 'symbolic of the play of eternity in time'.
