Find A Mom's Group That's Right For You!

Mothers share a special connection with each other that simply stems from having children. As a mom, I love to talk about my kids and hear from other moms going through the same things I am. I relish the opportunity to share and connect with other moms whether I'm at the play area in the mall or at my aerobics class.

When I moved to the Phoenix area five months ago, I left behind my network of mothers that I depended on to help me keep my sanity. I talked to a friend who had also recently uprooted her friend connection when she moved to a new state. She told me she had joined a local mom's club, and encouraged me to do the same. After a little research, I discovered the Mothers of Multiples Club, an organization specifically for mothers of twins or more. I have attended three meetings and a few of the outside activities so far, and now feel like I have a growing network of friends.

I would encourage any mother to seek out and at least try a mom's group. Meetings are held once a month (and without the children!) and there are play dates, community service projects, and guest speakers. Most also offer a mom's night out or a "date night" with dad. Most require a yearly membership fee, usually about $40.

Here is a listing of four nationwide mom's clubs. Each site has links to local chapters, which you can find by putting your zip code in the space provided.

INTERNATIONAL MOM'S CLUB www.momsclub.org

This group is a support group for stay-at-home moms. In addition to its regular activities, it does community service projects which benefit needy children.

MOTHERS & MORE, INC. www.mothersandmore.org

This group is for both stay-at-home moms and moms who work outside of the home.

MOTHERS OF PRESCHOOLERS www.gospelcom.net/mops

This group is religion based (Christian). They produce a magazine titled "MomSense," have a radio program, and put on seminars. They also have a chapter for teenage mothers called TEEN MOPS.

MOTHERS OF MULTIPLES NATIONAL ORGANIZATION OF MOTHERS OF TWINS CLUB, INC www.nomotc.org

Twins, triplets, quads or more! Find other mothers who are also seeing double!

So, what if there is no group in your area? You start one! It's not as hard as it sounds, and you can bet if there's no local group there are sure to be tons of moms who would love to join one. To get started, place fliers around town at the library, YMCA, children's clothing and consignment shops, your church, and your child's school.
