*Psst...it also adds flair and interest if you spice the name up a little bit. Such as, "Love Cookie Mix in a jar", or "Christmas chocolate chip cookies in a jar or Gourmet Chocolate chip cookies in a jar".
Decorate small pieces of paper by rubber stamping, stickers etc. (for instance for an angel jar, I would stamp an angel on each piece. On each decorated piece of paper write a little devotion, meditation, poem of love, favorite quote etc. Then place the paper pieces in the jar and decorate the jar. You can stencil paint on the jar, wrap the top with material, or glue with lace and other embellishments. Then place/tie a little tag on the side of the jar telling to pull out one daily, or monthly etc. (If daily add 31 pieces, if a month add 12). Scented Reindeer Ornaments It's true, after reading this month's Family Fun magazine, and in a desperate need to entertain myself after an extended illness, I adapted this, although it is cute, (I think), my husband laughed, and asked me why. With a package of Emory boards, a stick of cinnamon, and a whole clove, I ground the elements together. With a cotton swab, I dipped the tip into white tempera paint, on the top, and I made two paint circles for the eyes. With a permanent marker I then added the pupil of the eye. With brown pipe cleaner I shaped and/or glued the shapes for antlers, and glued them on to the back. With red paint (a cotton swab again) or a marker, then make your reindeer a "Rudolf", give him a smiley face with the marker again (black), and then as our son thought, our reindeer were in need of a scarf. Taking a small piece of green (or other color) pipe cleaner and twist around where the neck would be. Take a piece of ribbon and glue to the back for a hanger and voila! You have a nice scented nail file or a little ornament that you and/or your kids made together. Butterfly Ornaments I also got this from the Family Fun craft book... Take unused coffee filters, and water color paints. You and/or your children get creative and paint away atop of the filter(s), after the paint is dry, you can add some glitter embellishments or any other distinctive decoration if desired. Then paint, marker or crayon decorate a clothespin. Fold the dry filter and clip with the clothespin. Create antennae with pipe cleaner and if desired glue or affix a ribbon for hanging.
