Giving and Thanks To Our Neighbors With Love

I think I've mentioned before that my parents raised me in a home of convenience and disposability. At sixteen when my husband and I were married, I said goodbye to that way of living. Now being on my own and married, I had to learn things quickly and creatively, and although I many times did things the wrong way, I eventually came away, with an appreciation and a common sense for what little I had that could never have been bought from a store.

According to the King James Online bible, Give is mentioned 547 times. Thanks is mentioned 108 times. Love 266 times, Praise133, and Pray 450 times. Although my addition maybe somewhat inaccurate in specifics here and there, the underlying indication is clear.

  • We should give more than there are days in the year.

  • We should pray and praise for every time we are not giving, which makes up an even greater number of times in each day throughout the year.

  • About half of the time we should be giving to those whom we love, and out of love, and the other half of the time, to those we do not know, or have not loved.

  • Lastly we should remember to say thanks to those who have given to us, and those whom we love twice a week if not more. (P.S. Don't Forget God, I don't think this was necessarily counted in the pray and praise statistics).

Words of encouragement: If you have a place to sleep, money to pay for the roof that shelters where you sleep, and food to eat when you are hungry, you have much to be thankful for. Say thank you today!

If you have someone who loves you and kisses you goodnight, you have so much more to be thankful for.

If you have little ones that surround you who adore you and look to you for direction, you are blessed beyond comparison.

If you have family and friends that love and look past all of the areas where you fall short, and delight in the areas where you succeed, you have all that one could hope for.

If you can look to God on this day He has made, and say thank you with a honest and genuine heart, your blessings will be uncountable by man.

Acts of Encouragement : Please make today, the start of your giving more than the numbered days. You have been blessed with at least one gift that you can share with others. If it is music, go to a daycare or nursing home and entertain those with lonely eager hearts. If it's art, make something for those around who are in hospitals. If it is strength, offer to help your neighbor with his yard. If it is cooking, bake some extra cookies or meatloaf and share with a friend or an acquaintance that you know is going through a rough time. If you have money, give some to someone you know is in need, anonymously or with a card and a hug.
