Blessings For Tightwads....

Sometimes, I get very sad when I think about all the things that I could have, and I see the belongings of others. I used to spend a lot of time coveting the posessions of many, and feeling miserable and unloved because I did not have these things. Sometimes it was an elaborate house and yard, sometimes it was the accomplishments of others whom I admired or did not get along with. Thinking about it now, in retrospect, I know it was because of my own selfishness, and ingratitude that kept me from seeing the wonderful blessings all around me.

So now, when I see someone who seems to have it all, I try to remember "The Rich Young Man" in Matthew 19:21-24:

"Jesus answered, 'If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.' When the young man heard this, he went away sad because he had great wealth. Then Jesus said to his disciples, 'I tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of Heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.'"

I don't believe that this scripture is saying that wealthy people cannot get into heaven, but rather, they have more "things" to cloud their hearts and minds and to keep them apart from God.

A Help For the Hurt...

Whatever it is you are wanting, there is a reason you yet do not have it. Maybe it isn't good for you, maybe you wouldn't appreciate it now, perhaps if you had it it'd be stolen tommorrow, and the loss would be worse than the gain. There could be an obstacle up ahead where you will need all that you have financially to get through.

Is it something you truly need, or is it another expense? Is it a help or a hinderence.

If you want a leaf blower, lawn mower, super weed eater, snow blower... you will need to buy gas, oil and pay for additional maintenance.

If you want a dishwasher, steam cleaner, vacuum, or computer etc.,... will you be okay when they come out with a newer one better and cheaper next year?

My family and I struggle with this always. Just as there is always temptation around us, there are always going to be new inventions, and contraptions to trap us into a bitter longing, that never really satisfy our "hunger".
