Interview With The "Lone Breadwinner"...

Interview With One Family’s Sole Breadwinner... He is up at dawn to lasso the business world. He drives his wild "mustang" (or other frugal ride of choice) back home at sunset to his family who eagerly awaits him, to his wife and his children, he is the greatest of heros...For some people one income family living is a new and unimaginable concept. Is this idea possible, does it exsist? It seems as unthinkable to some as the "Loch Ness" monster. Some swear that it is true, others remain skeptical. For this reason, as a believer I tracked down a real live actual one income family, and interviewed the husband/father who is the "Lone Breadwinner." (SZ= Stacey Z.) (FBW= Family Breadwinner).
  • SZ: Could you please tell us about your family, and what makes you in the minority of most families?
  • FBW: I work full time outside the home, and my wife stays home with our kids. We are unlike most families in that we are a one-income family.
  • SZ: Whose idea was it initially to be a “one-income” family?
  • FBW: I think it was a mutual decision. It was always very important to me, and it was really important to both of us.
  • SZ: Why do you think it is and was so important to you?
  • FBW: It’s very important because no one can raise your kids better than you can. Kids can have a better start, a greater opportunity to excel at school. There is peace of mind in knowing that they are not being abused; and you build a better relationship with them in doing this.
  • SZ: It’s obvious you feel very strongly about this. How would you respond, if your wife decided that she would rather work than take care of the children?
  • FBW: As long as enough money could be made to cover necessities, then I would stay home with the kids.
  • SZ: You really are a sweet man.
  • FBW: Is this the end of our interview?
  • SZ: (Laughs), no. I’m sure many people would like to know, is this hard on you financially, or do you have a career that does not warrant a lot of financial worry?
  • FBW: We get paid enough for my wife to stay home with our kids, but not enough for me to have a big screen TV with surround sound.
  • SZ: Do you think a one-income family dynamic is an attainable goal for a “normal” middle classed income family?
