The Royal Navy at the time only numbered 36, but by scrounging all the English ports for suitable merchant vessels, that number was increased to 191. Appeals to the Dutch for aid brought a further 60 ships of war. The man these vessels, Elizabeth had 17, 472 sailors
The Spanish Armada, on the other hand, numbered 130. Over half of those Galleons - the battleship of the day. Phillip also had 26,000 soldiers and sailors to man these ships and fire the 2,400 guns among them.
Finally, which much fanfare, the Armada set sail from Tagus on 20 May 1588. Many on board thought England already conquered.
