On the Road Again© Mike Woods
Some weeks I sit down to write this column and ideas are just coming out of the woodwork. Other weeks, the ideas seem to be on vacation. This is one of those weeks.
It could be because I've been on the road for 3 days. Between meeting I've tryed to catch my wife at home or in her office, trading email by laptop and palm pilot. Modern problems. This is why it's so hard to keep relationships strong these days. So much to do. So many ways to communicate, just not enough one on one. Granted, I miss her terribly. And from what she tells me, I think it's mutual. But you know how it works. The moment I arrive home, I'll be tempted to sort the mail, check my messages, and unpack. That, folks, is the WRONG answer. What I really need to do is drop it all and get eyeball to eyeball with my significantly better half. You see, she and God are the two really constant things in my life for the past 24 years(yep, 24 years, celebrated the night before I left). It's these times away that really give me time to reflect on what a blessing she's been, what a joy she is, and how I obviously married way over my head. Don't tell her. I wouldn't want her to change her mind. So the next time you're away from your spouse for a few days, use it to think through all the reasons why you're a very lucky person. And when you get home...demonstrate that awareness....that's what I'm planning to do. Very soon! Go To Page: 1
