Oct. 12 ~ 10 Things I Hate.., The Rage: Carrie 2, Goodbye Lover,
Out on video this week!! In a cute, warm, fuzzy remake of The Taming of the Shrew the story is brought into the modern day high school setting. I enjoyed this movie for all it was and all it was not. It is a standard teenage vehicle, yet based on the solid foundation of Mr. Shakespeare. It is not deep or saturated with the language of yore, ala Leo & Claire's Romeo and Juliet, but it is nice, just this same. I do certainly look forward to seeing more from the young Australian, Heath Ledger, forgive me. (Heath Ledger as Patrick Verona) I also LOVE Julia Stiles and "met" her in the TV mini-series The 60s. (Julia Stiles as Kat Stratford) If you missed that one, be sure to grab it for a nice journey down memory lane. This movie is predictable, but sometimes that's not always a bad thing.... remember Message in a Bottle. The Rage: Carrie 2 http://www.mgm.com/carrie2/
A sequel seldom lives up to the greatness of what it is trying to follow up on, this one is no exception. I did enjoy the movie, yet it lacked....of course....originality. Some things do not really need sequels. It is worth watching. The sadness is when we enter things with preconceived ideas. With the rash of old TV shows being made into movies, it happens all too frequently. Many people expect to get what a show offered them and all too often they are disappointed. Can you say "The Avengers"? Yep, I thought you could. Some work out though. Can you say "The Addams Family"? First one only, please. Carrie 2 is based on the concept of the lead girl being Carrie's half sister and she too has the powers of revenge. Check it out, horror movies are few and far in between to not watch what we can. 2 words Dermot Mulroney!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (My Best Friend's Wedding, Bad Girls, Copycat) This movie is a dark comedy, so be warned. I enjoyed it, but I like Patricia Arqette a great deal as well. There are many plot turns and twists. Ellen Degeneres is HILARIOUS as the nosey detective. I have not heard of this movie before I watched it, but I did like it quite a bit. Warlock 3
I did not get a chance to take a look, but have heard it is much better than Warlock 2 and closer to the original movie and theme. So if you're a fan, check it out!
