The Cookie Exchange Party

Almost every year, my daughter has a Cookie Exchange Party. This party has a useful function as well as a social one. The idea is for all guests to bake different kinds of cookies and then everyone exchanges cookies and takes a variety home. You are then able to have a beautiful cookie selection without the expense of buying all those ingredients and spending endless hours baking.

Invite your guests early since this is a busy time of year for everyone. Make invitations to resemble cookies, a chef's hat or a Christmas present. Schedule the party for a Saturday to cover several hours if you also want to bake a variety or two there. We have often brought the prepared dough, instead of the finished products, but this is time consuming. It is another fun element to add if time is not a problem.

Either prepared dough or cookies baked should yield a substantial amount. If lots of guests are coming, this will mean several dozen so there is enough for everyone to have a sample of each variety. Try to find unusual types of cookies since everyone is used to the chocolate chip and sugar cookie. Print out copies of the recipe to exchange along with the cookies.

Decorations are no problem since you will be decorated for Christmas at this time. Large cardboard cookies or playdough cookies would be fun decorations One year, I decorated my widows with gingerbread boy and girl cookies hanging from red ribbons. It was very cute for the kitchen.

Busy bakers will need refreshments. My daughter usually has a variety of cheeses, crackers, ring bologna, pickles, and dips and chips and other crunchy, salty nibbles. Add a punchbowl full of Cranberry Christmas punch (recipe below). Don't forget some sweets although there is usually lots of sampling of cookies being baked that day.

Christmas caroling while baking could be fun, but at the least have Christmas music playing. Lots of good conversation is enough entertainment. You may find there is lots of giggling while the creative juices flow as you try to create works of edible art.

Everyone spends a relaxing afternoon and a just time with the girl's atmosphere is fun for every woman. Of course, this project can be a blast with men helpers and a great bonding experience for kids and whole families.
