Piggy Bank Party

This one is a good idea for a theme party for little bitty kids. The Piggy Bank Party is simple to prepare and will be just enough excitement for the tinier guest on your list.

Your invitations made by hand or computer or store bought should look like a typical piggy bank on the outside. Inside put the usual information plus instructions for each child to choose his favorite piggy bank to bring along. It would also be fun to have the children each dress like the bank they choose. Costumes could be very simple or just masks to represent their banks.

When everyone has arrived and you are ready. Have the guests form a circle and march to display their banks as well as their costumes. Making sure each child wins a category, give prizes for the most unusual bank, prettiest, tiniest, largest and so forth.

For decorations use bright colors which children love best. Make large display cutouts of banks. Make a variety of banks, not just pigs. These should be heavy and freestanding. Put a cardboard foot on these to help them stand. Add a slot big enough to put large cardboard coins in. Make coins simply by cutting out circles with a glass or even a dish, depending on how large you want them, for patterns. Write on different amounts to represent pennies, nickels, dimes etc. Add balloons, streamers, oversized dollar bills and lots of real or pictures of banks, play money, coins etc.

Use these banks to play a game, keep it very simple to match the ages of your kids. The first one, "Hurry To The Bank", is a typical relay. Make two teams and use two banks. Ask children to get ready, set, on the mark, and go. Tell each one that the first one must take their cardboard coin and put it in the bank and hurry back to the end of the line. The first team finished wins. Next one is called, "Saving Is Fun." You may also use the bank like pin the tail and blindfold the child and guide them asking them to put the coin in the slot that is just painted on. Closest one would win.

Wondering about prizes. Candy coins, play money, a new bank or pennies for everyone's bank will be appropriate.

Pig shaped place mats or place cards will carry the theme along. Don't forget to add a slot when you create these. Banks of all kinds could decorate the table. Party food with special cookies cut like pigs and decorated with icing like banks would be festive. The same theme could be used on cakes or cupcakes.
