Dinosaur Age Theme Party

Since the newest dinosaur movie it seems this topic has gained in popularity again. For some little folks, the theme of an age when dinosaurs roamed the earth holds great excitement. The time is full of mystery and wonder and a fabulous theme for a party.

The setting for your party can be made to look much like a movie set with some of my favorite oversized appliance boxes put into use. You are trying to achieve a look of a primitive earth in full bloom during prehistoric times. Lots of trees and foliage, rivers, volcanoes, a lush vegetative background is what will give your house, garden, room the look you want. Cut out large shapes for trees, volcanoes and dinosaurs along with whole panels for scenery from our boxes. Use paints, and special touches like glitter or foils to make it more party like. Don't forget to create a population of various species of dinosaurs.Toy and stuffed or cut out decorative cardboard dinosaurs should populate the whole party area. Use green, yellow, brown streamers to make tropical looking trees. If you aren't up to the challenge of creating this world in its entirety, party stores always have lots of supplies based on the current popular movie.

Construct the land before time and then ask your little guests to explore it. You might have them arrive dressed in explorer costumes or make 'safari' hats to be given to tiny guest along with a pair of toy binoculars. Preschool to first graders will love a simple party. With a few easy games and prizes for all. Older kids need more realism and your brontosaurus better look like one. The activities will involve more skill and be more elaborate.

For small kids plan a simple game. 'Mommasaur' forgot where she laid her dinosaur eggs and the little explorers are needed to find them. Take plastic Easter eggs and spray paint them a sandy beige color. Fill them with small prizes or candy for all guests to find. You can leave them empty and paint them with a special star or paint an egg gold to be the winner. Hide them just like another egg hunt and give your explorers 'backpacks' to put them in.

Older kids could activities based on facts known about dinosaurs. Any dinosaur website could give some basic information to use for questions. You can team up kids who will compete against the other team for prizes. Add an active element by placing a path of stones throughout the party area. The path will lead to an inactive volcano known to have a rare species of dinosaur. You need to answer a question to correctly to spin. Use a spinner to determine turns for each person. Have a few obstacles listed on the spinner that require a person to lose a turn such as two dinosaurs are fighting and you are in danger, or the volcano has erupted and the path is not yet clear. Be imaginative.
