Little kids will love this party, but don't overlook the possibility of using this type of theme for older kids and teens, even adults. Adjust food and activities according to age.

This is an excellent party to make use of old Halloween costumes since they often are designed with cartoon characters in mind. If costumes are unavailable and you feel the cartoon characters especially animals, are too difficult to recreate, try using just one feature from the costume. An example would be to use Bullwinkle' s cap, Mickey Mouse ears, Donald Duck's feet etc. Your kids are more likely to be watching some of today's hits rather than classics, but older kids and adults will still enjoy those oldies.

If you are looking for decorations, you can find all sorts of items in many locations from the party store to the toy store. There are often paper products, balloons, gift bags and all types of posters, and larger display items, sometimes in the most unlikely places. Grocery stores are sometimes willing to give up display pieces that feature some of the newer cartoon characters. The older ones are considered too collectible by many to just give away. You often find toys and figures featuring your favorite cartoon personalities at garage sales, which may add another decorating element to the plan.

Many children's art kits and hobby supplies, coloring books, and software feature these same characters so it is easy to make stuff from scratch or to use these items as a project activity for your theme party. It is very easy to find puzzles, and games featuring the Muppets, Teletubbies, or Pokemon for example. The list is endless. You can feature one character, a group of personalities from the show, or each child can pick anyone they want to represent from the broad spectrum of possibilities.

Try food from the shows with specific recipes for each character or pick an item that each character is known for such as Honey for Pooh Bear, Pizza for Ninja turtles, bananas for Dumbo, or Chocolate Chip Cookies for Cookie Monster, or lasagna for Garfield. You get the idea. You can incorporate these into other foods such as a banana split for the bananas.

Colors for your scheme will be bright, bold, and riotous just like the cartoons themselves. Lots of balloons and streamers are a must. Use all those stick on bows in bright colors as an accent with your streamers, placing them on the peak if against a table or wall. Use them to add color and even to help hold on balloons or streamers, or cutout decorations and posters.
