Game Party

A Game Party theme will reintroduce our technologically sophisticated world to a calmer pastime. With all the video games, computer games, and technology toys, we have forgotten the fun that can be had by competing in games more easily played by all generations. There is nothing wrong with these technological wonders, but there is something missing- interaction with people.

A theme party based on board games will provide hours of fun and plenty of time for conversation. When I was young a rip -roaring game of Monopoly was considered a perfectly wonderful way to spend a Saturday night. Although, I admit this game is also fun on the computer, the real act of moving pieces and placing your shoe or dog on a space cannot be replaced.

There are so many games of all sorts that your game theme party could even have a sub theme, like psychological games, money making/business games, or games of skill and strategy, and card games.you can add competitive elements and give out prizes if you wish. Playing cards, games, scorepads, and books featuring instructions for tons of card games make wonderful prizes.I have also seen some wonderful coaster sets decorated with card suits.

Add costumes if you wish by requiring guest to create a costume based on a card gam,e or board game. this is more challenging,. but would add a fun elemnt to your party when the Queen of Hearts shows up with the Joker.

The decorations could be a collection of old gameboards, or boxes from games. Add bright colors such as Monopoly Blue, Parchesei Red, Tiddly Winks Yellow, and Tripoloy Green. Lots of cards oversized or regular, could be a wonderful decorating element. Add card suite shapes of hearts, spades, clubs, and diamonds. Fill the ceiling with balloons and streamers of all colors. Use game pieces from ready to throw games to accent the buffet table.

Feature foods that are not too messy mainly finger foods. Dips and veggies, tiny sandwiches, cookies, and bars, snacks like pretzels, crackers, and chips. Don't forget to add wedges of cheese, fruit, ring bologna, olives, pickles, for long hours of snacking. Add pop or punch and lots of hot coffee and you have a simple menu with almost no preparation needed ahead of time. Add napkins and accessories with playing cards on them or possibly follow through with all your bright colors, mixing them up for a delightful bright decorating theme.

You may wish to have several card tables set up with different games going on at the same time if your guest list is large. Put out a variety of games. Include a couple of decks of cards, several board games like Yahtzee, Scrabble, and Monopoly if you enjoy the classics and most guests are older. Concentrate on games of bluff and action, or knowledge and skill if that is more your 'bag.' Balderdash, Trivial Pursuit, Jenga, and Twister may be just right for your guests. Expand the game selection to include charades or any of the million and one parlor trick types of activities if you want more interaction.
