How About A Garage Sale Party?
First you make plans with 4 to 6 other couples to stage a garage sale. Only rule, everyone must participate in the sale as well as the party. You gather up all that excess stuff that just surfaced and everyone is on hand to make this the best sale ever. Put one seller in charge of signs and publicity, another couple or so in charge of set -up and display, someone could be in charge of pricing and tagging if this sale is to be a joint effort and each couple must be there to do the sale. Sellers can each set up their own section of the garage with their stuff if you want more competition. Each seller should don a loud tie and straw hat or a card dealer's visor. If this is a competition each person takes turns trying to sell the odd- white elephant item. A prize could be awarded later for the top salesman. Ongoing refreshments could be part of the day, but the whole sale should culminate in a barbecue 'party.' After the sale, which should end early enough for the party, you all could go to the grocery store as a group to grab barbecue food and supplies. The cost can come from your garage sale venture, with each couple equally sharing the cost. Then back home for the actual barbecue. The party will be a traditional cook out with someone taking charge of the grill and someone else creating their special barbecue sauce. Put another person in charge of the potato salad and other side dishes etc. Typical cook out food served in the fresh outdoors. Paper products can be themed to go with your sale, something with dollar bills or coins maybe. The relaxing atmosphere will be conducive to conversation where people can recap the important garage sale moments and their personal best deal made. To cap it off, why not a wild game of cards? Play either under garden lights, in a screened porch, or move the party inside. This party kills two birds with one stone. You get rid of all the accumulated stuff that is taking up room and spend a fun day with friends. No one person gets stuck with all the cost or the work. It may even become a tradition.
