'Wanna Be' A Reporter Party

'Wanna Be' A Reporter Party:

This is a theme party for kids old enough to be able to write and ideal for muddle school kids. The theme is to celebrate being a newspaper reporter. Keep the concepts simple and fun and it will create a memorable party.

Send each child an invitation that looks like a rolled up newspaper with the headline, "Wanted- Newspaper Reporter". Publisher is who is giving the party. Include the time for the party under Deadline and add your other information in the ad that describes your party. Tell the guests that they are invited to try their hands at being newspaper reporters. Your address is Where to apply for the job.

Let them decide on what their costumes should be according to what their concepts of news reporters is and they can arrive wearing it. When the guest arrive, hand them all small notebooks and pencils.

The main activities of the party are those involved in 'Getting their story.' The kids will have a chance to play out news stories and then must write an account of it. You could provide at least half a dozen news items that tell about a fire, or a disappearance, or maybe a lottery winner, or an essay winner, or a hero, or a special person who has a wonderful skill or talent. You find the items and then the kids will get into a group and act them out. These must be very short items so that you can do several.

Have an active game where the reporters can see how good they are at pitching a story as they try to pitch a newspaper. Winner is the one who gets the farthest distance.

Relay races where reporters hop on one foot, grab a newspaper, hop back with it, and hand it off to the next team member could be fun.

Story telling-Try sitting the reporters in a circle and asking them to add to the information to make this a great news story. Start with a simple mild statement like "In today's news was an item that the summer is going to be the hottest ever." And let the next person continue it. Each person will add to the story until the circle ends. With small groups you may want to go round the circle two or three times.

Ask one good reader to read the story or an adult can and then get the group to decide who is what person in the story. They will give a brief skit about the news item and then all of them will try to write a short news piece about it. Best story wins. Prizes could be fancy pens, writing supplies, other office stuff like a pocket calculator, or maybe an inexpensive watch to keep the reporter on deadline.
