Honor Past President's Party
A president's party needs to feature patriotic colors of red, white, and blue with our country's flag featuring prominently in the décor. Photos or colorful graphics of Lincoln and Washington can be found at this time of year, but you could add other president's you admire as well. Use streamers of these colors to dress up the party location and balloons for a fun look. Any political buttons, badges, campaign memorabilia would be a fun addition to your look. Outlines of the shape of the United States could be turned into wall decorations, invitations, place mats, etc. Or use the shape of Washington's hat, or Lincoln's stove pipe hat. A party like this for kids is valuable since it teaches patriotism, a quality often lacking in our youth. We need to constantly find reasons to make people proud of this country and counteract the harm officials have done to the image. Kids need heroes and this is a good place to start. Focus on those leaders in the past that made wonderful contributions to our nation. Star the folks who were examples of great character and worthy accomplishments. Feel free to expand this theme to include statesmen, signers of the Declaration of Independence, and others who contributed in a positive way to our history. It would be fun to base activities and games on some of the most popular legends about these people. When we think of Washington, we think of throwing the Silver Dollar across the river or chopping down the cherry tree, and not lying about it afterward. Lincoln is known for his part in freeing the slaves, and walking miles to loan a book. Thomas Jefferson is known for signing the Declaration of Independence, Benjamin Franklin for his kite flying experiment. These could be your starting points for designing games and activities. A little research will yield you tons of information, which could be the germ of an idea. A little creativity is all you need. Skills based on your ability to pitch a coin over a make believe river, a relay race with books on your head, a pin the cherry on the tree game, or using a piñata in place of the tree, you get the idea. Design a game based on the common party games you know. Just cleverly adjust them to your theme. Go To Page: 1 2 |
