TRIM A TREE PARTY
This party needs less preparation than some other types of parties. The main focus is on trimming the tree. Usually a very special tree is the center of activity. If your home allows it, the tree should be good sized and well shaped. If your room is small, go with a shorter or narrower tree, as this will not spoil the party. You may also need to pick a tree less than perfect due to your budget. My theory on trees is that you take home the less than perfect ones and love them. Once the lights and ornaments are on, every tree becomes magical. Whenever possible, place the tree so that it can be reached on all sides for decorating. Before the party, pick the best tree for you. Trim the bottom, saving those cut off boughs for decorating. Adjust the tree till it sits straight in the container. When it is reasonably positioned, place tree in a spot so guests can surround it to decorate. It is probably a good idea to have all ornaments, tree lights, tinsel, garland, and tree topper ready in one spot for folks to pick from. You may even decide to put the lights on before the guests arrive. One Trim the Tree party I went to asked guests to each bring a homemade ornament. This will be given to the party giver and placed on their tree as an addition to their permanent Christmas collection. You might also ask them to bring an ornament that describes them best for the tree. You will no doubt get angels, clowns, golfers, animals, Santa's etc. You could ask them to offer an ornament that best describes where they want to be 10 years from now, or what means most to them. Another version of this party has guests exchanging these ornaments with other guests, or doing this in addition to the ornament for the party hostess. Any variation of this idea could be used as well as just decorating the tree with what the hostess has to offer. Decorations are simple and will be those you have planned for the entire holiday season. Get out your holly, mistletoe, and greenery both real and pretend. Add red bows, and jingling bells tied to doors. Wrap a table like a present or place swags on chair back corners. Don't forget to bring in family touches and those things that mean most to your interpretation of the season. Remember the reason for the season with a nativity or other items celebrating the Lord's birth. Go To Page: 1 2 |
