BRING ON THE CLOWNS

Our next party has a circus theme, and is for children. The circus fills people with excitement and wonder. It is a colorful experience with lots of action and laughs. These ideas should be the basis for your party.

Circus invitations and other paper products are bound to be easy to find at any party store online or otherwise. If you wish to make your own, use a big top design for the front, or any one of the numerous appropriate circus animals. Make them childlike and colorful.

Your invitations must ask guests to come dressed as clowns, but with the absence of make-up since face painting will be one of the activities. Costume ideas could be given if parents call needing help. Colorful clothes, oversized shoes, red wigs, bald heads, suspenders on baggy pants, wildly striped socks or tights, funny hats with one large daisy coming from a wiry stem, and short skirts, dresses etc. with large polka dots will be great places to start. Think silly, funny, ridiculous and you probably will find the right clown costume materials.

Much of the party could take place under a makeshift Big Top of striped fabrics like towels etc. or even an old, no longer usable, oversized tent, sprayed with colors for the occasion. You could also make the same effect by draping various colors of streamers to form a tent. Open up a large area of your room for the performances. Use photos, pictures or stuffed elephants, tigers, lions, bears, and camels to add atmosphere. Striped fabrics of red, yellow, orange, green, blue, and purple can set the stage and be your guide to other colorful party products. Don't spare any expense when adding balloons, the more the better.

This party does not need to be too elaborate, even the decorations are simple. Keeping colors bright set the table with a variety of paper products in rainbow colors.

Refreshments are easy too. A variety of shapes and colors should be part of the menu. Brightly decorated cupcakes with little plastic circus animals on top. Ice cream faces topped by upside down cones make wonderful clowns, add a fancy collar of whipped cream. How about Jigglers, Jello shapes cut with cutters, use animals or just colorful shapes like hearts, diamonds, triangles, and circles. Add Kool Aid in lime, strawberry, and orange flavors. Some salty snack foods could be added, but popcorn balls are more healthy, add gummy candy bits to add color.
