How to Throw a Black and White Themed Party: Costume, Decoration, Game and Food Ideas

A Black and White Party theme is a party where everything is black, white, or both. This includes decorations, costumes, even food.

Black and White Party Costume Ideas

Here are a few black and white examples to get you started: Harlequin, Rabbi, James Bond, Conductor, Skunk, Playing Card (clubs or spades), Dalmatian, Skeleton, Book, Penguin, French Maid, Dice, Zebra, Mime, Priest, Nun, Cow, TV, and Half White/Half Black.

A person wearing a large advertising sign like the ones that used to say "EAT AT JOES" would be terrific costume. Hook two large pieces of white poster board together and put it over the head. Use black markers for the lettering. The same technique could make a record or playing card. Face paint and black and white clothing can turn anyone into a mime.

Black and White Decorating

Cover walls with newspaper, hang white sheets for backdrops with black patterns. Cover walls to resemble black/white animal furs. For variety, find black backgrounds with white printing too.

Cover tables with newspapers. Use black or white flowers and candles. Napkins, placemats, serving pieces, utensils, etc. must keep your theme. Large black and white photos or pictures strung across the room on a line with black or white clothespins add a darkroom effect.

Black and White Themed Party Games

1) Divide into two teams – a black and a white. Blow up black and white balloons, fasten them to a board keeping colors mixed. Blindfold people. You must only hit your color. If white team members hit black they are out, and when black team members hit white the same result. Last person wins for himself or his team.

2) Take two piles of beads, one black and one white. Each team is assigned a color. At a starting sound, team 1's first person runs over to team 2's stash, gets one white washer and strings it on a rope while team 2's first person gets a black washer and strings it on his team's rope. First team to go through all members or washers from the other team wins.

Black and White Food

The food is challenging since party food tend to be colorful. Here is a short list: caviar, black and white beans, olives, clams in shells, white fish, potatoes, rice, pasta in cream sauce, licorice, marshmallows, hard boiled eggs, Oreos, white cookies, tapioca or vanilla pudding, coconut.

To drink, serve black coffee, tea, white wine, milk, cola, or black cherry soda. Serve black foods on white plates and white foods on black plates.
