Recording The Immigrant - Part 5
And now the conclusion to our epic retelling of the recording of the "Original Cast Demo" of: In the end we got everything we planned to record. Mixing was accomplished in a number of short bursts over the following two months. With ProTools, and our engineer/co-producer Randy Hansen's expertise with it, we were able to accomplish some amazing things: rescuing a brilliant vocal performance from a botched accompaniment; grafting together pieces that were recorded independantly; repairing the noise of the piano pedal that was killing us in some of the quiter sections; adding the sound effects Randy had recorded and prepared for the produciton. When we began it all we had no idea of what the total length the total recorded material would come to. At the time we assembled the songs in order we discovered that not only could we fit all the material on the CD, we had time to include the hymn version of "Take the Comforting Hand of Jesus." What follows are short MP3 encoded selections from many of the numbers included on the demo CD. My apologies for the advertising you must go through to get to the materials; I used the free FilePool public storage (using Triptic Design's Make iAlias for the Mac).
